✈️ Getting there

TIATirana International Airport Nënë Tereza
📍 11 km20 min🚌 Bus🚕 Taxi

The airport bus (operated by LU-NA SHPK, runs 24/7, departs roughly hourly) costs 400 lek (~€4) and drops you near Skanderbeg Square — by far the best value option.

A modern, compact single-terminal airport that handles over 10 million passengers a year, served by Wizz Air, Ryanair, Air Albania, Austrian, Lufthansa, and British Airways among others — well-connected to most European hubs.

Don't Miss

Hidden gems and local experiences in Tirana — beyond the tourist trail.

🚡Take the Dajti Ekspres cable car (runs from Porcelain Factory stop, 800 lek return) up Mount Dajti — arrive before 10am on a clear day for unobstructed views stretching to the Adriatic. The mountain-top restaurant serves decent grilled lamb if you want to linger.
🏛️The National History Museum on Skanderbeg Square has a spectacular socialist-realist mosaic facade — photograph it from the far end of the square at golden hour when the light catches it. The museum itself is worth 1-2 hours for the Illyrian and communist-era collections.
🍽️Book ahead for Mullixhiu (Rruga Luf Gjoni) — chef Bledar Kola trained at Noma and serves a seven-course Albanian tasting menu for around €30. It's one of the most underpriced serious restaurants in Europe right now. Go for lunch; evenings fill faster.
🏘️Wander the Blloku district on a weekday afternoon — Rruga Pjetër Bogdani and the side streets off it are lined with terraces where you can nurse a macchiato for an hour without anyone rushing you. Enver Hoxha's actual villa still sits quietly at the neighbourhood's centre, now open as a small museum.
🧱Visit the Bunk'Art museums — two former nuclear bunkers turned into art spaces documenting Albania's communist isolation. Bunk'Art 1 (on the Dajti road, larger) covers the regime history; Bunk'Art 2 (city centre) focuses on the secret police. Do both in the same day; they're complementary.
