✈️ Getting there

MDEJosé María Córdova International Airport
📍 35 km45 min🚌 Bus🚕 Taxi🚌 Uber

The easiest option is Uber, which costs COP 70,000-100,000 (€15-22) to El Poblado — official taxis from the airport rank are similarly priced but meters can be unreliable; avoid unmarked cars entirely.

José María Córdova is a full-service international airport 35km east of the city in Rionegro; Avianca, LATAM, Iberia (via Bogotá) and Copa serve European connections, and significant US routes make onward connections straightforward.

Don't Miss

Hidden gems and local experiences in Medellín — beyond the tourist trail.

🚡Take the Metrocable Line J from Acevedo station all the way up to Santo Domingo Savio — the gondola rises over the comunas that once defined the city's violent past, now filled with libraries, escalators, and street art. Go on a weekday morning when it's not packed and walk down through the neighbourhood afterward.
🌺Visit the Feria de las Flores in early August — ten days when Medellín covers every surface in flowers and the silleteros (flower farmers) parade down Avenida El Poblado with enormous floral arrangements on their backs. Book accommodation months ahead if visiting during the feria.
🎨Walk the open-air escalators (Escaleras Eléctricas) in Comuna 13 — the 384-metre staircase lift transformed the neighbourhood and is now lined with murals by local artists. Go at 10am before tour groups arrive and talk to the community guides at the base, not the touts.
Take a half-day coffee tour in the Antioquia countryside — the hills around Jardín (3 hours by bus from Terminal del Sur) have working fincas that do guided tours from crop to cup for under COP 50,000. Jardín is less touristy than Salento and the town square is one of Colombia's finest.
🍹Spend a Friday night in Parque Lleras in El Poblado and then walk 20 minutes north to Parque de los Deseos in Laureles for a completely different, more local bar scene. Aguardiente (anise liquor) is the drink of choice — order it neat with agua panela on the side.
