Dubrovnik is the Croatian Adriatic's crown jewel — a perfectly preserved medieval walled city rising from limestone cliffs above a sea of impossible turquoise, its marble streets and baroque architecture making it one of the most visually stunning urban environments in Europe. The walls walk — a complete circuit of the 14th-century fortifications offering panoramic sea and rooftop views — is rightly famous and should be done at first light to avoid the cruise-ship crowds.

Walk the 2km City Walls at 8am sharp — tickets open at 8 and the route is half-empty before 10am. The southeast bastion gives you the best view of Old Town rooftops and the sea simultaneously.
Take the Žičara cable car to Mount Srđ at sunset (last ride down is 30 min after sunset). The 412m summit view over the walled city lit gold is genuinely spectacular — book the return online to skip queues.
Swim at Buža Bar — a cliff-side bar with no sign, accessed through a hole in the old city walls (look for 'cold drinks' painted on the stone near Ulica od Margarite). Jump from the rocks or sip a beer 10m above the Adriatic.
Take the morning ferry from Gruž harbour to Lopud Island (Elafiti group, 50 min, ~€5 each way). Walk 25 minutes across the island to Šunj Beach — a rare sandy beach in this rocky coastline, almost deserted on weekdays.
