🏰Climb Toompea Hill before 9am — the Kohtuotsa and Patkuli viewing platforms are deserted at that hour and the rooftop views over the red-tile Old Town are unobstructed. The crowds arrive by 10am.
🏚️Walk Kalamaja's backstreets (Valgevase, Koie, Kungla streets) to see Tallinn's beautifully preserved 19th-century wooden houses — it feels nothing like the tourist centre and is best explored on a weekday afternoon.
🍺Head to Telliskivi Creative City on a weekend afternoon: the old factory complex hosts a street food market, indie shops, and bars where a pint costs half what it does in Old Town. Do a full circuit of the buildings to find the best street art.
🥣Order elk soup and a savory pie at III Draakon — it's a tiny stall actually inside the medieval Town Hall building. Elk soup is about €4. Absurdly atmospheric and absurdly cheap.
