✈️ Getting there

HKTPhuket International Airport
📍 32 km50 min🚕 Taxi🚌 Minivan shuttle🚌 Private transfer🚌 Smart Bus

The Smart Bus (Route S1) connects the airport to Phuket Town and Rawai Beach for ฿170 (about €4.50) and runs every 30–60 minutes — far cheaper than the taxi queue, which will cost ฿700–1200 to most beach areas.

A large and well-developed international hub with direct routes from Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Moscow, and numerous Asian hubs — expect crowds in peak season (Dec–March); two terminals handle budget and full-service carriers separately.

Don't Miss

Hidden gems and local experiences in Phuket — beyond the tourist trail.

🌅Catch the sunrise from Promthep Cape on the southern tip — arrive by 05:30 before the tour vans come and you will have the viewpoint almost to yourself. The silhouette of Chalong Bay at first light is extraordinary.
🛶Hire a private long-tail from Ao Po Pier to James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan) — the 2-hour route costs around ฿2500 for the whole boat and avoids the crowded speedboat tours entirely.
🍜Eat Hokkien noodles at Raya Restaurant in Phuket Town — a 100-year-old Peranakan house, the crab curry is made from a recipe unchanged since the 1950s. Book for lunch; they often run out by 13:30.
🐠Dive or snorkel at Similan Islands (October–May only) — book the 2-day liveaboard from Khao Lak rather than Phuket; it is cheaper and you get earlier access before the day trippers arrive.
🏛️Old Phuket Town on a weekday morning is one of the best-preserved Sino-Portuguese streetscapes in Southeast Asia — walk Thalang Road before 09:00, before the café crawlers arrive, and look for the hand-painted tiles on the house facades.
