✈️ Getting there

PNHPhnom Penh International Airport
📍 10 km25 min🚕 Taxi🚌 Tuk-tuk🚌 Bus

The official airport taxi desk in arrivals charges a fixed USD 9-12 to the city centre — for a tuk-tuk, negotiate directly outside arrivals for around USD 5-7, or use the Grab app for metered pricing once you have a local SIM.

Phnom Penh International Airport is a mid-sized regional hub with a new terminal opened in 2023, served by Air Asia, Bangkok Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, and China Southern.

Don't Miss

Hidden gems and local experiences in Phnom Penh — beyond the tourist trail.

🏯Visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda first thing in the morning (8am) — the Throne Hall, Napoleon III Pavilion, and the Silver Pagoda floor (5,000 silver tiles) are best seen before coach groups arrive; the palace grounds close at noon on some days so check the schedule.
🕯️Spend a full half-day at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and then take a tuk-tuk to Choeung Ek (the Killing Fields, 15km south) — do not try to rush both into two hours. The audio guide at Choeung Ek, narrated by survivors, is one of the most moving museum experiences in Asia.
🌅Watch sunset from the rooftop of Elephant Bar at Raffles Hotel Le Royal, or for a less expensive version, from the riverside promenade near the junction of the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers — the confluence of two great rivers turning gold at dusk is genuinely dramatic.
🍢Eat at Orussey Market's street food section from 5pm onwards — grilled corn, fried insects (genuinely delicious, try the crickets with Kampot pepper), lok lak skewers, and fresh coconut water at prices that haven't adjusted for tourism yet.
🏺Visit the National Museum of Cambodia on Tuesday to Thursday afternoon when school groups have left — the world's finest collection of Khmer sculpture is displayed in a stunning terracotta pavilion, and the guardian naga in the central courtyard garden is magical at 4pm in low sun.
