✈️ Getting there

MVDCarrasco International Airport
📍 20 km30 min🚌 Bus🚕 Taxi🚌 Uber

Uber is the most reliable and cheapest option at around UYU 500-700 (€11-15) to the city centre — the COT and Copsa airport buses are slower (45-60 min) but cost under €3 if you're budget-conscious.

Carrasco is a beautiful mid-size airport designed by Rafael Viñoly, clean and modern with good cafes airside; Aerolíneas Argentinas, LATAM, Iberia and Copa serve European connections via Buenos Aires, Santiago, or Panama City.

Don't Miss

Hidden gems and local experiences in Montevideo — beyond the tourist trail.

☀️Hit the Mercado del Puerto on a Saturday lunch — the parrilleros inside cook whole cuts over wood fires in an 1860s iron market. Arrive by 12:30pm to get a seat before the tour groups descend. Order a medio y medio (half white wine, half sparkling) while you wait.
📚Browse the Tristán Narvaja feria on Sunday morning — Montevideo's legendary street market stretches for 10 blocks with books, vinyl, antiques, and street food. Arrive at 10am for the best finds before dealers sweep the book stalls.
🌊Walk or cycle the Rambla from Ciudad Vieja to Pocitos — 22km of uninterrupted waterfront promenade, completely flat. Rent a bike from any hotel or the Montevideo Bike Share near the Radisson. The stretch past Playa Ramírez at golden hour is the best urban walk in the Southern Cone.
🍷Take a day trip to Bodega Juanicó — 40km north of Montevideo, one of Uruguay's oldest wineries (1830). Uruguay's tannat wines are world-class and almost unknown in Europe. Book a tasting at juanico.com.
🎭Catch a Carnival murga performance between January and March — Montevideo's Carnival is the longest in the world and murga (satirical musical theatre) is its heart. Neighbourhood rehearsals (ensayos) happen in open garages from December and are free to watch.
