✈️ Getting there

MADAdolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport
📍 13 km25 min🚇 Metro🚌 Bus🚕 Taxi🚌 Express Bus

The Metro Line 8 runs directly from T4 and T1-T2-T3 to the city centre (Nuevos Ministerios) in about 25 minutes for €5 including the airport supplement — cheapest and most reliable option.

Barajas is a large, modern hub with four terminals; Iberia and Vueling dominate, but all major European carriers serve it, and T4 is Iberia's slick international flagship terminal designed by Richard Rogers.

Don't Miss

Hidden gems and local experiences in Madrid — beyond the tourist trail.

🎨Visit the Reina Sofía on Sunday afternoons — entry is free after 1:30pm, and Guernica is far less crowded than weekday mornings. Go straight to Room 206 on arrival.
🥩Eat cocido madrileño at La Bola Taberna (Calle de la Bola 5) — it's served from a single pot per table, cooked in a wood-fired oven. Book a few days ahead and arrive hungry.
🌅Watch the sunset from the Templo de Debod — an actual Egyptian temple gifted to Spain in 1968. The park fills with locals in summer; arrive 30 minutes before sunset to get a spot on the grass.
🍷Explore the Lavapiés neighbourhood on a weekday afternoon — the cheapest and most atmospheric tapas bars are on Calle de Argumosa, and the multicultural street food scene is unlike anywhere else in Madrid.
🛍️Hit the Rastro flea market on Sunday mornings — it runs 9am–3pm around Calle de la Ribera de Curtidores. Arrive before 11am for the best finds; the surrounding bars fill with locals for post-market vermouth.
