The Edinburgh Trams line runs directly from the airport to the city centre (Princes Street) in around 30 minutes for £8.50 single — buy a return for £16.50 to save on the journey back.

🏔️Climb Arthur's Seat at dawn — the extinct volcano in the middle of the city rewards the 45-minute hike with 360-degree views of Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth, and on clear days, the Highlands. Completely free, and the early light is extraordinary.

🥃Do the Scotch Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile (book online, CHF 19 / £16) — not a tourist trap, genuinely the clearest intro to Scotch regions and production. The tutored nosing of four regional styles is worth the ticket alone.

🎭If visiting in August, book Fringe shows at least 3 weeks ahead — the best free-venue acts sell out. The Pleasance Courtyard and Underbelly are the reliable hubs. For non-August visits, the Traverse Theatre programmes challenging new Scottish writing year-round.
