Little Venice at golden hour: the colourful 18th-century sea captains' houses built right over the water in Alefkandra quarter — sit at one of the Caprice or Galleraki bars with a drink as the sun drops. Arrive at 7pm in summer to get a window seat; by 8pm every stool is taken.
Day trip to Delos archaeological site: the sacred island 30 minutes by boat from the old port is one of the most important archaeological sites in the ancient world — the Avenue of the Lions and the House of the Dolphins mosaics are extraordinary. Boats leave at 9am and 10am (€20 return), the site closes at 3pm, and Delos is UNESCO-listed with no accommodation, so day-trippers are limited.
Fokos beach on the north coast: this is Mykonos as it was before the party scene — an almost-deserted sandy cove with no sun loungers, one simple taverna, and water that's a serious shade of turquoise. Reachable only by rough track (4x4 or ATV), which keeps the crowds away entirely.
Windmills of Kato Mili at sunrise: the iconic 16th-century hilltop windmills are photographed at sunset but at 6am they're completely empty — the light on the white walls is pink and golden, the bay below is still, and you'll have one of Mykonos's most famous views entirely to yourself.

Day 1
Chora (Mykonos Town) morning walk
Explore the white-cube labyrinth of Chora before 10am when the lanes are quiet — find Paraportiani Church (the most photographed building in the Cyclades), the windmill hill, and the Aegean Maritime Museum tucked in the backstreets.
Delos archaeological island
Take the 9am boat from the old port for a full morning on the sacred island — the ancient ruins spread across a treeless island and the museum at the site entrance contains the original Lion terrace statues. Buy tickets at the port (€12 entry + €20 boat).
Little Venice at sunset
Return to the waterfront quarter by 7pm and secure a seat at Caprice or Galleraki — watching the sun set from a bar built over the Aegean swell is a Mykonos ritual that absolutely lives up to the reputation.
Nikos' Taverna, Chora
The most consistent value on the island — grilled fish, horiatiki salad, and cold Mythos at prices that feel like a different decade. Cash only, arrive early.
Day 2
ATV to Fokos or Agios Sostis beach
Rent an ATV from Fabrika Square (€25-35/day) and head north on the rough tracks to the island's quietest beaches — Fokos has no loungers or crowds, Agios Sostis has one good taverna and calm water. Go early before the afternoon winds kick in.
Ano Mera village & Tourliani Monastery
The only real inland village on the island — the 16th-century monastery with its carved marble iconostasis is beautiful, and the square's kafeneion is where Mykoniots who aren't in the tourism business spend their afternoons.
Windmills at sunset (from below)
Rather than the crowded windmill terrace, watch the sun set from the narrow lane below the windmills looking up — or from the fishing harbour at Alefkandra for the full windmill-and-sea composition.
To Maereio, Chora
Tiny, family-run restaurant on a back lane serving proper home-cooked Greek food — the daily specials board is the menu, the stuffed peppers and slow-cooked lamb are exceptional.
Day 3
Ornos or Platis Gialos beach morning
The south-coast beaches are calmer than the party beaches — Ornos is family-friendly and has the island's only beach suitable for children; Platis Gialos has good water sports and a regular boat taxi service to other beaches.
Archaeological Museum of Mykonos
The collection includes the famous 'Mykonos vase' — a 7th-century BC pithos depicting the Trojan Horse, one of the earliest known representations. Small museum, 45 minutes, excellent context for the Delos visit.
Chora backstreet shopping
The lanes away from the waterfront have independent jewellery makers, ceramics studios, and small galleries — a different experience from the luxury boutiques on the main drag.
Kounelas Fish Taverna, old port
The oldest fish taverna on the island, right on the fishing harbour — the owner buys direct from the morning catch, the prices are fair, and the grilled sea bream is a benchmark.
